About Cricket Online Storytime:
Joan Simpson is an animated, natural story teller at heart. She has enjoyed many read a-louds over the years with her pre-kindergartners and kindergartner students alike. Joan has an uncanny ability to make stories come alive and engage her young audience.
Joan started her teaching career in 1993 in the New York City Public School system. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood, and later became certified to teach grades 1-8, kindergarten and pre-kindergarten. Joan’s early experience in education began in early childhood and has remained so over the years. Joan continued her career in the Fort Worth, Texas School System where she worked for over 8 years as a kindergarten and pre-kindergarten teacher.
Being an entrepreneur at heart, Joan opened and operated her own successful childcare and preschool business serving children ages 18 months to 5 years for three years. Joan has worked over the years to help children get a strong start in literacy and has inspired and taught children to read as early as three years old. She believes one of the best gifts you can give to a child is the gift of reading. She loves the saying, “Learn to read, so you can read to learn.”
She currently resides in the Abilene, Texas area, with her husband and two dogs. She is currently completing her fourth season as a Virtual Elementary Teacher with K12.
Her newest venture, Cricket Storytime allows her to do read a-louds in real time online using a virtual classroom. She brings experience, passion, and an array of teaching skills set to turn little ones on to books and reading. All you need to do is bring your child to Cricket Storytime and let Joan do the rest.
She looks forward to seeing you there!
